The serrano pepper 10,000 – 23,000 Scoville heat units (SHU). That's hotter than a jalapeño (2,500 – 8,000 SHU). The hottest serrano can be 9 times hotter than the mildest jalapeño pepper. However, the average serrano is only approximately 3 times hotter than an average jalapeño pepper.
